Suki Films says this:
Six million ways to die. Choose one.
Framed within a series of strange and shocking campfire tales, ROSE BY NAME tells the story of Cullen Francis, a privileged young man whose life is upended by the sudden death of his mother.
Months later on his twenty first birthday,he finds an old videotape, which his mother had recorded for him when Cullen was only an infant. On it, Cullen’s young mother reveals to him the one truth she never had the strength to tell him when she was alive: he is the product of rape, a vicious and random assault which left his teenage mother in critical condition, and her attacker- a lifelong criminal named Keith Rose- in prison.
The next morning, Bill wakes up to find his beloved stepson’s bed empty; Cullen has set off to confront the man in prison, but is shocked to hear that Rose was released the previous year, Cullen resolves to track down his sinister biological father, his heartbroken stepfather only hours behind him. The trail leads into the underbelly of the inner city, through a terrifying forced march through the woods, the young suburbanite learns that the truth can be far more bizarre than anything told around a campfire.
We know that Thomas said this was the most physical role he’s played. They hope to screen it at Sundance Film Festival 2012.
